The oval has been in disrepair for some time, and the redevelopment project aims to breathe new life into the oval, creating a beautiful, sustainable space designed for the whole Rivermark community to enjoy.
Designed for relaxation and recreation, the oval will foster interaction and enjoyment for all ages. Blending nature and community, the new space will support a wide range of users with an interactive kids' playground, picnic facilities, and a fenced, off-leash dog area so residents’ dogs can play and socialise safely.
Residents will be able to enjoy beautiful, green open spaces with lush, manicured lawns framed by majestic gum trees offering plenty of shade. The natural setting encourages an active lifestyle, with plenty of space to play and exercise and a network of connected paths for cycling and walking.
A Space Designed with Sustainability in Mind
Rivermark has been purposefully designed and developed to address the principles of sustainable urban living, and these same principles are considered throughout the design of the oval.
True to Rivermark’s core values, the oval will incorporate a range of design principles that align with our goal for sustainable development.
Showcasing our dedication to preserving mature trees and maximising green canopy, there will be extensive retention of existing trees across the site, with new tree planting initiatives proposed throughout the project. The ovals' existing orientation will be maintained to maximise the retention of significant trees, with the same approach applied to the levels of the oval and surrounding areas.
The new trees will be a rich mix of native trees which are hardier, require less water, and create a more supportive environment for native fauna. Planting of exotic trees will take place to highlight key areas, such as the playground.
A blend of Western Australian native plants will be used for new shrub planting, with a focus on plants local to the area. Site mulch is being considered for use below the existing trees and within the new planting areas, providing a barrier that will help prevent soil erosion.
The footpaths within the reserve will use low-carbon concrete similar to that used in Stage 2 works within the estate.
The concept design is currently investigating the use of salvaged brick and timber.
